Victoria’s love for colour, pattern and light has roots in the beautiful lace her family once manufactured. ‘Losing Lace’ Victoria’s community based project explored the disappearance of the Nottingham lace industry. Victoria wanted to piece together the facts, preserve and celebrate the history of lace making in the Midlands by creating an archive of interviews, photographs, memories and stories connected with the industry. Workshops for schoolchildren and the elderly were delivered within the East Midlands. The 20 paintings created were Victoria’s response to lace pattern books dating from 1912, these were exhibited across the region alongside her lace installation of artefacts gathered during the research. Victoria continues to be inspired by lace and is currently planning a new lace project for 2021.
Her love for teaching has continued since becoming an artist and Victoria enjoys sharing her passion for creativity through her projects, children’s book illustration and art workshops. She has worked with many different organisations such as; Artcore, Melbourne Festival, Air Arts, Creative Carers and schools. Through experience working with people all ages Victoria has become increasingly interested in how art can support health and well being, developing ways to encourage people to be creative and enjoy making art. She often brings in seasonal treasures into her workshops so participants can enjoy nature first hand and respond creatively.
