I can’t believe I just realized something wild while rewatching Moana! We all know Maui can literally pull up islands—an ability straight out of Polynesian mythology. In legend, Maui created the Hawaiian Islands by tricking his brothers into thinking they’d hooked a giant fish, when really he was pulling up land from the ocean floor with his magical hook. Now here’s where it gets crazy—Lilo & Stitch is also set in Hawaii. In that movie, Lilo’s parents died in a car crash during a heavy storm. And guess who controls the weather in Moana? Yep, Maui. So what if he was accidentally responsible for the storm that caused their crash? It gets even weirder when you remember in Moana 2, Maui jokes, “Unless it was a butt dial—that’ll make sense in 2,000 years,” which kinda hints he was around in the early 2000s... the exact time Lilo & Stitch takes place. Coincidence? Or is this Disney’s most mind-blowing crossover?
