Belgium's oldest jazz festival, Jazz Middelheim, made a glorious return to Park Den Brandt in June 2025. After a three-year absence, the iconic festival returned with a new organisation and fresh perspective, blending tradition and innovation across two main stages and a third for jazz-infused DJ sets - a vibrant celebration of the genre's past, present and future.

"This vinyl set was recorded live at Jazz Middelheim 2025. I was invited to play a set for My Analog Journal, and chose 'remembering we are nature' as the guiding theme.
At Jazz Middelheim I played a hybrid set of one hour and a half in total, blending vinyl records with live instrumentation tuned to natural and healing frequencies, field recordings, and spoken word. The selection moves through dreamlike landscapes and ancestral grooves - from the oceanic mysticism of Jon Hassell to the lunar poetics of Midori Takada, mesmerizing harp sounds by Orphan Fairytale, or Biologic music by Heerlens Percussie Ensemble, the plant-speak of Mort Garson, etc. I wove in field recordings of sea sounds, whispers from Ursula K. Le Guin’s poems, and live improvisations with acoustic instruments, creating a journey between the visible and the invisible - between earth and ether. A sonic offering for rooted presence, cellular remembering, and quiet awakening."

Rooted in Brussels’ underground music scene as an artist, longtime dj and curator, NiXiE's practice expanded into sound therapy and energy work. Today, whether DJ-driven or ritual-based, her sets are invitations into altered states and subtle activations that help us remember: we are nature.
