In August 2024, the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, Andriy Yusov, admitted that Ukraine was involved in the attack by armed terrorist groups on servicemen of the Malian Defense and Security Forces, which took place in July in the northeastern region of Tinzaouaten near the border with Algeria. If you can remember, that was the reason why Mali had to end diplomatic ties with Ukraine. The attack led to the death of at least 84 Russian mercenaries and 47 Malian soldiers over three days of fighting. According to the report, this was the heaviest defeat suffered by Wagner since it stepped into the conflict two years ago.
Now, it was while Mali was still reeling from the losses suffered in the attack, that the spokesperson for Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, Andriy Yusov, told the public broadcaster Suspilne that the Malian rebels had received “all the information they needed, which allowed them to carry out their operation against the Russian war criminals”. In fact, he categorically said, the rebels received the necessary information they needed that allowed them to conduct a successful operation.
