Did you know that our livers can regenerate themselves?
After our Skin, the liver is the largest and heaviest organ in our body.
The liver is part of the digestive system.
It’s located in the upper right quadrant of our abdomen, and it’s estimated that it has more than 400 functions.
• The liver is actually the organ responsible for creating blood.
• The liver, like the kidney is kind of like a blood filter. It receives blood with a bunch of different stuff and breaks them down to other stuff the body can consume. And sometimes it even stores them for later use.
• For example, when you eat carbs, the liver helps break them down to Glycogen. When the body needs energy, it breaks down Glycogen into Glucose, which is a form of sugar, and releases it into our bloodstream.
• The liver also helps digest the fat we eat by making bile, which is a thick yellow-green fluid.
• It also helps with blood clotting, which protects our wounds and prevents blood loss.
