This song was recorded in April 1990 in Entourage Studios, Hollywood, at the same time as "Back By Popular Demand" was recorded. Freddie Freddie Gorman came to me with a demo of "Back By Popular Demand" and I agreed to cut it between the Supremes and the Originals. He also gave me a demo of him solo, singing the unreleased Motown song Suspicion. At that time I had never heard Suspicion before. This was 45 years ago and the record had not really been discovered by the Northern scene. So I also cut his solo version based on his original demo, which was a very different arrangement to the version released on Motown by the Originals. The problem was that "Back By Popular Demand" overshadowed everything, and became a monster Northern Soul hit, and so Suspicion was neglected. The pairing of the two super groups for "Back By Popular Demand" was an instant success. But then Jean Terrell left the Supremes shortly after this, never to sing with them again. Three of the four Originals died, including Freddie Gorman, leaving only Hank Dixon still alive. The Motown record then became a true Northern Soul classic. Also back in 1990, I released solo records on another Originals member, C.P. Spencer, real name Crathtman P. Spencer. He was the lead singer of Detroit doo-wop group The Voice Masters originally, before becoming much more famous as one of the two main leads of legendary Motown group, The Originals. They notched up many hits, especially "Baby I'm For Real", "The Bells", and "Down To Love Town". While doing Motorcity I managed to reunite the entire line-up for several recordings, plus I did several solo tracks with C.P. as well. I co-wrote THIS MAN NEEDS YOU for him with Sylvia Moy in 1990, and it became one of my favourite songs I'd ever written. In late 2006, I took out the master tape and started again from scratch, creating a brand new song and new production around the original vocals, for my new album "Sold Ground" on Goldsoul records. So I took the footage of him singing in the studio all those years ago, and edited it together to the new version. And now we made this wonderful video of my dear much missed friend, Freddie Gorman. I love this to bits. I hope you do too. If I can make music like this, I can be proud. Sadly Freddie died quite a few years ago, so he'll never get to hear this wonderful new version.
