From his days as a Howard University undergraduate student in the late 1980’s, Sean “Diddy” Combs has always been associated with the world of parties. In the late 1990’s, Diddy created his legendary “white parties,” which became one of his most enduring innovations and a testament to his ability to shape culture. Diddy’s all-white parties were the blueprint that billionaire Michael Rubin followed in creating his high-profile July 4th white parties for the past few years.
In this episode, Diddy’s longtime childhood friend, Tim “Buttnaked Tim Dawg” Patterson talks about growing up with Diddy and how the two of them would find their way into legendary New York City clubs like Studio 54 and Roseland Ballroom. He recalls the inspiration this provided for his friend to want to rise to the top of this world as a party promoter.
Patterson takes us back to his memories of the City College tragedy of 1991, where nine people were killed in a stampede trying to get inside the Puff Daddy & Heavy D celebrity basketball game. Patterson recalls how Diddy would somehow overcome this horrible situation and bounce back stronger than ever, with the launch of his own label, Bad Boy Records. “You don’t realize how much money has been poured into Puff,” Patterson says. “I don’t know what kind of magic he had over the industry but I ain’t never seen nothing like that in my life…and just get away with it. Andre loved that ni**a, Clive loved that ni**a.”
Diddy: Monsters Are Made, They’re Not Born is a multi-episode docu-series featuring exclusive commentary from Tim “Buttnaked Tim Dawg” Patterson,” who has been one of Sean Diddy Combs’ closest friends and confidantes for the last 50 years. They rose together in the music industry, getting their start working at Andre Harrell’s Uptown Records. Tim would become a senior Vp & liaison for Diddy’s Bad Boy Records to Arista, and go on to hold senior positions at Epic and Island Records. Tim and Diddy have remained close friends up until the charges were brought against Diddy last year. Now Tim is the first person from Diddy’s inner circle to decide to speak and tell his story in full honesty and transparency. New episodes released weekly.
