The media are repeatedly reporting that EV sales are down. They also report that electric vehicles cause potholes, catch fire more, cause more emissions from tyres & brakes, cause car parks to collapse and find any way they can to portray EVs negatively. Many have been fooled because they believe the mainstream media to be a trusted source of information.
However much of this negativity is by design and is being generated by lobbyists and media agencies working for the oil industry and sometimes the motor industry too. It's all designed to delay the uptake of electric vehicles and keep us burning oil for longer. Some may think that is just a conspiracy. But of course we've always had industrial conspiracies like "smoking keeps the doctor away" or "diesel is green".
Now that 2024 has ended, the motor sales figures are in and have been collated by The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). In this video I look at the UK car sales in 2024 and how electric vehicle sales are performing, which is very different to what the media often portrays. I also look at how well the industry is doing at meeting the UK Zero Emissions Mandate.
