23rd Sept. 2018.
Due to the marathon.we went into the city by metro. Exit via Teartralnaya station and walked past the Monument to Marshal Zukhov. Entered the Red Sq thro the Resurrection Gate. In front of the gate is a bronze plaque on the floor marking zero kilometre, the centre of Moscow. The Iveron chapel is preserved at the gate _The star-splattered cupola of the structure was topped with a statue of an angel bearing a cross.
According to a popular custom, everyone heading for Red Square or the Kremlin visited the chapel to pay homage at the shrine, before entering through the gate.

The Red Square opened up before us past the gate.

The buildings surrounding the Square are all significant in some respect. Lenin's Mausoleum, for example, contains the embalmed body of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, the founder of the Soviet Union. Nearby to the South is the elaborate brightly domed Saint Basil's Cathedral and the palaces and cathedrals of the Kremlin.
On the east side is the GUM department store, and next to it the restored Kazan Cathedral. The Northern side is occupied by the State Historical Museum, whose outlines echo those of Kremlin towers. The Iberian Gate and Chapel have been rebuilt to the Northwest.
