Carbon fiber is a lightweight, ultra-strong material made by weaving thin strands of carbon into a fabric, then setting it in resin to form a rigid composite. It’s known for its high strength-to-weight ratio and sleek, high-tech appearance. When light hits a surface like carbon fiber, the way it reflects depends on how smooth that surface is. If the surface is rough or scratched, light scatters in many directions - this is called diffuse reflection, which makes the surface look dull or matte. But if the surface is smooth, like after applying resin, light reflects in a single direction - that’s specular reflection, and it’s what gives surfaces a shiny, mirror-like finish.
