…and their fun was interrupted with breakfast delivery from Papa Shadow. Both Jackie and Shadow are being wonderfully attentive parents, all day long bringing more food and taking time to gently feed both chicks. Sunny and Gizmo are so well-fed that sometimes they don’t even bother to open their mouths during one of the feeding times.
In the afternoon, as the stick play continued, the adorable curiosity of young beings kicked in…and Gizmo discovered Sunny’s toes!
Gizmo tried a little bite on that bright yellow-orange ‘stick’, which seemed to make Sunny curious about those long pointy things down there. Sunny poked at Gizmo’s crop in return, but then got completely enthralled with its own bright toes. Now that Gizmo had brought attention to them, Sunny stared at those toes for a long time, and eventually figured out how to twitch them, move them and even raise them up to watch the action. And then, like Gizmo, Sunny couldn’t resist nibbling on them to see how they tasted.
After all that scratching and curious discovery, a cuddly little siesta seemed in order. Sunny showed off the difference only 4 days older makes in how many feathers are blossoming…and Gizmo showed off the new skill of trying to sleep like an adult eagle with head tucked under those still-tiny wings.
I highly encourage everyone to find more beneficial things to do than arguing about eagle chick names. These names were joyfully selected by grade school kids who had great fun in learning about eagles and naming the chicks.
Wishing everyone a beautiful day of celebrating life and smiling at the fun of watching Sunny and Gizmo grow up.
