Located in the heart of Riga, Latvia, the Corner House is a reminder of the Soviet era’s control and terror. Once the headquarters of the KGB in Latvia, this building was used for brutal interrogations, imprisonments, and executions.

The KGB targeted anyone who opposed Soviet rule, and many of the prisoners held here were subjected to cruel torture in hopes of extracting confessions.

Today, the Corner House stands as a museum, offering a glimpse into this dark chapter of history. Because the KGB designed the building in a way that it’s very easy to get lost, you can’t freely explore it. You’ll need to book a guided tour.

Riga, the capital of Latvia, is a city rich in history, culture, and beauty. I’ve studied there for half a year and it was my first encounter with Eastern Europe. After that, I knew it wouldn’t be my last.
