Right near the border of Israel and Palestine, which has a long, interesting history, lies the border between the UAE and Oman. It's probably the weirdest border in the Middle East. This place, with just 40 buildings making up a small village, is actually a territory of the UAE, completely surrounded by Oman. Not too exciting yet, right? But if we zoom out a bit, we'll notice that this piece of Oman is completely encircled by the rest of the United Arab Emirates. Zoom out even more, and we find another piece of Oman, an exclave, marking the southern shore of the Strait of Hormuz. It's totally cut off from mainland Oman. This creates a situation where if someone living in mainland Oman wants to go to the Madan Peninsula, they have to pass through around seven checkpoints just to stay within the same country.
