Today I’m joined by Roman from Shnobel Tone for an exclusive interview about his new Shnobel Distortion pedal, his life as an FX pedal builder and company owner, his illustrious YouTube channel, and his life as a musician and artist!

I’m pretty sure anyone who’s seen my channel with be familiar with Roman. His Shnobel channel is one of the true originals when it comes to guitar gear demos – in fact, since his first video in 2010, he’s made over 2700 of them! This puts Roman right up there with the likes of Andy at Pro Guitar Shop, Pete Thorn, gearmanndude, The Tone King, and even Rob Chapman as one of the earliest innovators of this little corner of the internet.

But Roman does a lot more than just making YouTube videos! In 2020, he started Shnobel Tone, his own pedal company. The likes of the fantastic Daily Driver Boost overdrive and the Ratatouille distortion have become cult favorites in the guitar world, and his range of pedals and accessories is growing all the time.

Roman’s also been modding pedals and other guitar gear for years – he was one of the first to combine a volume pedal with a tuner, a mod he still does today – and he also had plenty of success with his band, Sons Of Day, with whom he recorded albums and toured across North America and Europe.

In this interview, Roman tells me all about his journey to date, from how he first got into music and guitar, to how he began tinkering with and modding pedals, through to the heights of owning and operating his own FX pedal company!
