Hey guys, today we're taking you to Niagara Falls which is a super easy day trip from Toronto!
A few weeks back on a crisp autumn day, we hopped in the car together with Audrey's dad, Daniel, and we drove 1 hour and 15 minutes over to Niagara Falls. The falls are located right on the border between Canada and the United States, so normally you can walk across the Rainbow Bridge and view them from the other side, but since the border is still closed (we visited November 2020), we'll be showing you the views only from the Canadian side.

Niagara Falls is made up of 3 different falls; you have the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side, and then the Bridal Veil and the American Falls on the American side.

We spent the morning enjoying the views and walking along the promenade. Then, in the afternoon, we decided to do a little wine tasting. The town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is well-known for its many vineyards and wineries, so of course, we had to visit.

By chance, we ended up doing a tasting at Two Sisters Vineyards, which was voted the best small winery in Canada. Here we tried 4 different wines including Canada's famous ice wine, which is made using grapes that have been frozen while still on the vine. This dessert wine is very sweet and it's almost like drinking liquid honey. A must-try if you're visiting the Niagara wine region.

Our one tip for visiting vineyards in Niagara would be to make a reservation. We showed up without much of a plan and had to try 3 different places before we found one that had availability.

And that was our day. Our visit to Niagara was short and sweet, but it was a fun day trip. Hopefully, once things are calmer we'll be able to plan a weekend escape!

🍁 Niagara Falls & Niagara-on-the-Lake Day Trip | Wine Tasting, Nature, and Canadian Vibes 🇨🇦🍷

Introduction & Lockdown Life 🤠🏡

Before Ontario entered lockdown, we managed to squeeze in two spontaneous day trips from Toronto, one of which was this memorable visit to Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake. With most days spent at home (and a serious hat collection in rotation!), it was the perfect chance to reconnect with travel, nature, and some of Canada’s most iconic scenery before hunkering down again.

Arriving in Niagara: Classic Sights and Canadian Geese 🦆🌊

Once we arrived, we were greeted by the unmistakable honk of Canadian geese, who are as much a fixture of Niagara as the falls themselves. We reminisced about childhood trips and past visits, both of us having been here years ago, but for this trip, our focus was simply soaking in the falls themselves and the natural beauty of the area. We bundled up for a sunny but crisp autumn day, with temperatures just above freezing—a quintessentially Canadian experience!

Exploring the Falls: Activities & Trivia 🚤🎡

Although many of the big-ticket attractions like the Maid of the Mist boat ride and tunnels behind the falls were operating under restrictions, we took time to share tips for a classic Niagara visit. There’s so much to do here: boat tours that bring you close enough to feel the mist, tunnels that let you see the water rushing down from behind, observation decks for panoramic photos, and attractions like casinos, ferris wheels, and hotels that cater to all kinds of travelers. Niagara really has something for everyone, whether you’re a first-timer or a repeat visitor. On this trip, though, we stuck to the simple joys of walking, watching, and appreciating the grandeur of the falls from every possible angle.

Vineyard Adventures: The Great Reservation Race 🍇🍷

After soaking up the falls, we drove over to Niagara-on-the-Lake to explore the region’s famed wineries. Little did we know that sunny weekends meant nearly every tasting room was booked solid! Our first two stops—Wayne Gretzky Estates and Peller Estates—turned us away due to lack of reservations. Lesson learned: make a booking ahead of time if you want to visit the most popular vineyards. Luckily, persistence paid off at Two Sisters Vineyards, where a last-minute cancellation landed us a coveted tasting slot at one of Canada’s most celebrated small wineries. For $20 per person, we enjoyed a flight of four wines.

Niagara-on-the-Lake: A Charming Discovery 🏘️🍂

We fell in love with Niagara-on-the-Lake’s charm, historic homes, and colonial architecture. The difference between this peaceful, preserved town and the tourist energy of Niagara Falls was remarkable—one feels like a calm walk through history, the other a bustling theme park. Walking the tree-lined streets, admiring vibrant autumn leaves, and soaking in the relaxed vibe of small-town Ontario.
