The characteristics of asthma are three airway problems - Obstruction, Inflammation, Hyper-responsiveness.

Symptoms
Common symptoms of asthma may include
* Chronic cough especially at night
* Noisy breathing
* Chest tightness
* Wheezing
* Breathlessness


What happens during an Asthma Attack?
An asthma attack occurs when the symptoms become severe. Attacks can begin suddenly and range from mild to life threatening.

In some cases, swelling in the airways can prevent oxygen from reaching the lungs and prove fatal.
