How To Straighten Crooked Studs

These two studs are as crooked as a politician- here’s the best way to straighten them.
First, I mark a level line across the crooked studs and on to the studs on either side of them.
Next, I use my speed square to mark a 1 ½” by 3 ½” box that I’ll cut out with my multi-tool.
This will give me the space I need to run a 2x4 through the front of the crooked studs.
You really only want to use this method for non-load bearing walls.
I take a measurement down at the floor to get the space between all four studs.
46 ½” – I cut this out of a straight 2x4; then, I transfer the layoff off the base plate onto the 2x4.
I push it tight against the first stud, run it through the two crooked studs, and then butt it into the fourth stud.
I’m going to use 3” screws to fasten everything in place.
I screw through the studs on both ends into the 2x4; then, I start a screw into the spacing for the first crooked stud.
This way I can pull the stud into place with my left hand and finish driving the screw with my right my hand.
The next stud was not only crooked right to left, but it was bowed in. You can see how the screw pulled it out.
Now all four studs are plumb. This is a job good enough to hang your hat on. @hausplans
