What does getting granular look like in practice?
Getting granular means asking lots of questions and drawing out the details.
This allows you as a therapist to cultivate accountability with your clients, which is vital to effective treatment. They start to see that when you give them exposure homework, that you are truly invested in their wellness. They come to expect that you're going to ask them about it in the next session.
Over time, getting granular teaches your clients to hold themselves accountable, so that eventually they'll be able to conduct ERP on their own. Ultimately, that is the end goal of ERP--to empower our clients with the skills they need to take control of their own recovery!
