Marvel’s third movies always take something away from their heroes. In Iron Man 3, Tony Stark destroys all of his suits and removes the arc reactor from his chest. Civil War forces Captain America to leave behind his shield, the very symbol of his identity. Thor: Ragnarok takes Mjolnir away from Thor as Hela shatters it into pieces. And Infinity War? The Avengers lose everything when Thanos snaps half the universe out of existence.

But the losses don’t stop there. No Way Home breaks Peter Parker completely—he loses Aunt May, MJ, Ned, and even his identity. Spider-Man 3 sees Tobey Maguire’s Peter losing his best friend, Harry Osborn, right after they finally reconcile. And in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Star-Lord loses Gamora again, but this time, she’s truly gone, and the Guardians disband for good.
