How to remove an oxygen sensor without stripping it. If it feels like the O2 sensor is about to strip when trying to remove it, stop and do not proceed trying to remove it.Instead, spray penetrating oil, torch, or warm up the engine. This will help loosen the oxygen sensor on the exhaust manifold.
Use an oxygen sensor socket/tool, 22 mm or 7/8" wrench. If there is too much slack, use a paper towel and place it over the oxygen sensor. This will make a tighter fit.
