Today's Catholic Mass Gospel and Reflection for January 9, 2025 - Luke 4:14-22

The Truth That Unites and Divides

Thursday after Epiphany
Lectionary: 215

Alleluia: Lk 4:18
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
The Lord has sent me to bring glad tidings to
the poor and to proclaim liberty to captives.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel: Luke 4:14-22
And Jesus returned, in the power of the Spirit, into Galilee. And his fame spread throughout the entire region. And he taught in their synagogues, and he was magnified by everyone.

And he went to Nazareth, where he had been raised. And he entered into the synagogue, according to his custom, on the Sabbath day. And he rose up to read. And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. And as he unrolled the book, he found the place where it was written: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; because of this, he has anointed me. He has sent me to evangelize the poor, to heal the contrite of heart, to preach forgiveness to captives and sight to the blind, to release the broken into forgiveness, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord and the day of retribution.”

And when he had rolled up the book, he returned it to the minister, and he sat down. And the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to say to them, “On this day, this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” And everyone gave testimony to him. And they wondered at the words of grace that proceeded from his mouth.

Thursday, January 9, 2025 - A moment with GOD through HIS WORD.

Reflection: What difficult teaching of Jesus have you struggled to accept, and how can you open your heart to embrace it with trust and praise?

Prayer: Lord, I accept all that You have taught, and I choose to change those parts of my life that do not conform to Your most holy will. Give me wisdom to see the thing from which I must repent and soften my heart so that I will always remain open to You. Jesus, I trust in You.
