At least one person died and three other people injured as a fire broke out at a high-rise building in the capital’s Gulshan area on Sunday evening.
The body of a male, aged about 30, was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at about 10:00pm, DMCH police outpost in-charge Md Bachchu Mia said.
The man, whose identity could not be known immediately, died as he jumped off the high-rise building after beginning the fire.
Fire service and Civil Defence deputy assistant director Shahjahan Shikder said that the fire broke out at the sixth floor of the 12-storey building on road-104 of Gulshan-2 at about 7:00pm.
He said that they rescued 22 people from the building until 11:00pm.
The fire service official said that 19 firefighting units worked there to contain the fire and it came under their control at about 11:00pm.
