What is Surge protection device and how its works | SPD testing

A surge protector, also known as a surge suppressor is a device that is made to protect electronic equipment from unwanted power surges or spikes.
It takes only a tiny amount of voltage increase to damage most of sensitive electronics equipment and devices or circuits. These voltage irregularities are caused by many factors such as lightning large appliances turning on home wiring problems and problems with a local power provider like your supply companies.

SPD stands for Surge Protection Device. It’s essentially an active electronic device that limits voltage surges to prevent damage to electrical equipment. it consists of a metal-oxide varistor (MOV) that can conduct a high amount of energy during a surge event and then quickly return to its normal state of high resistance.

SPD is essentially a sacrificial component that absorbs the excess voltage and dissipates it safely, thereby protecting the whole system. There are several benefits that surge protection devices for solar PV installations offer like:
