☀️SSL-G Compressor In Bitwig☀️

🔈Bitwig just introduced their new device compressor+ and as a compression nerd I’ve wanted to see how it performs side by side with one of my favorite compressors, the Townhouse buss comp by Brainworx (an SSL-G compressor emulation). 🤔

🟢 As I mainly use Townhouse buss comp to glue my drums together, the drums were the first stop in my testings of compressor+.

🟡 At first I was playing around with it to get familiar with its tone and controls, understand its multiband sidechaining system and VCA coloration modes. But after that I went on a SERIOUS mission to emulate my beloved Townhouse Buss Comp using Compressor+ and here’s what I found out.

✅ To get that SSL tone, I set autotiming to smash with a setting of 2.5% and since it influences how the attack and release stages perform I went with almost similar settings as the Townhouse buss comp, 20ms for the attack and 10ms for the release and I’ve set the threshold to taste.

▶️ I was getting closer but still not where I want so the next thing I went for was changing the gain-reduction mode to “Beyond”, the ratio to 1:1.47 and the VCA coloration mode to saturate.
It was at this moment when comrpessor+ started giving me those townhouse buss comp vibes, the rest was adjusting to taste, the attack, release, ratio and threshold parameters.
