We've just found out our ceiling beams have snapped clean through, on top of that the windows are literally falling in. A few weeks ago we were sleeping in this room, unaware that massively heavy oak beams could have collapsed on us during our sleep.Woodworm, damp and fungus were all present. The splits had been there for some time but more worryingly, they were close to the top of the attic stairs, where every footstep would have fallen.
The ends of the beams were rotten due to damp ingress and rodents had started to gnaw away patches. Nails were rusty and floorboards even showed damage due to roof leaks.
We'd already established the walls were crumbling, so this quick bedroom makeover was turning into somewhat of a nightmare. On the positive side, it can't get much worse.
This aging bedroom ceiling will need to be stripped and removed.
