This is an op-ed inspired by a conversation I had with Super Progressive about the recent arrival of the term "EDM" as electronic music started to grow in appeal with the masses. But because the existing genres like "dance" or "house" could sometimes come with.... ehem... certain connotations 💅, you started to hear a new term floating around. But one whose origins have always felt more defensive than dance-floor. So in honor of #pridemonth, I made a new episode to say no matter where electronic continues to grow, its roots all stem from one thing: black gay culture.
