In forestry operations, specialized tractors are commonly known as "skidders." These powerful machines are specifically designed for logging and timber harvesting tasks. Other specialized forestry equipment includes:
- Forwarders: Used to carry logs rather than drag them
- Feller bunchers: Machines that cut and gather trees
- Harvesters: Machines that fell, delimb, and buck trees in one process
- Bulldozers: Modified for forestry use with additional protection
- Timber processors: Used to delimb and cut trees to length
Some operations might also use tractors with forestry attachments or modifications, but dedicated skidders are the most common type of "tractor" used in commercial forestry operations.
