I translated the beautiful Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi into Old Norse, the language spoken by the medieval Scandinavians. It is my voice in the recording.

The Old Norse text is provided at the top of the screen with a semi-literal translation of the Old Norse into English below. The prayer lists a variety of concepts that mankind struggles with, and not all of these have perfectly attested translations into Old Norse, so I had to be creative with some of the vocabulary choices.

The original Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi is in English as follows:

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness joy.

O Divine master, grant that I may
not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved. as to love.
For it's in giving that we receive,
and it's in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it's in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
