Held in December 1969 at the Altamont Speedway in Northern California, the Altamont Free Concert was envisioned as the "Woodstock of the West" but contrasted sharply with the peaceful spirit of the New York festival.
Organized by the Rolling Stones, the festival was marked by riots, violence, theft, and deaths.
According to some records, the Hells Angels were hired as security by the organization and were to be paid in beer, a fact that generated even more chaos, culminating in the death of a young spectator.
This event symbolized the end of the rock festival era of the '60s, reflecting the challenges of counterculture and the social tensions of the time.
