Every July, the national and international ultrarunning community descends upon Silverton, Colorado, to celebrate one of the most captivating events in the sport: the Hardrock 100. Hardrock follows a rugged, single-loop course along dirt trails, jeep roads, and open cross-country terrain through the stunning San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. Known as a "postgraduate" ultramarathon, the race boasts over 66,000 feet of elevation change, with an average altitude above 11,000 feet.Due to its immense popularity and limited field size, runners often spend years in the lottery system before finally earning their spot at the starting line.
For the 2025 edition, we set out to capture the essence and spirit of this iconic race—highlighting inspirational front-runner performances from athletes like Katie Schide and Ludovic Pommeret, the infectious passion of race director Dale Garland, the vibrant energy of local communities like Ouray and Telluride, and the raw grit and determination of every athlete pushing their limits, especially those fighting the final cutoff during the golden hour.
