I have plain brown eyes, always have. But in college, every girl I was interested in seemed mesmerized by guys with striking eye colors. After being friend-zoned repeatedly while watching green-eyed guys get all the attention, I started wearing colored contacts daily. When I met Sophia 7 years ago at a wedding, she immediately got lost staring into my "incredible natural green eyes" and said she'd never seen anything so beautiful. I've been wearing these $60 monthly contacts religiously since then, even sleeping in the extended-wear ones. I told Sophia I was naturally blessed with rare green eyes, and she believed every word.

Now our son Blake is 2 months old with the most stunning emerald green eyes I've ever seen. Sophia keeps taking close-up photos, posting them with captions like "Daddy's gorgeous eyes live on!" and "My green-eyed boys." She even had professional portraits done focusing on our "matching" eyes.

Here's where everything started unraveling. Sophia has hazel eyes that look brown in most lighting. Last week, she became obsessed with genetics after her mom mentioned how unusual it was for brown-eyed and hazel-eyed parents to have such vivid green-eyed children. She started researching eye color inheritance, calling both our families to ask about green eyes in our bloodlines. When she couldn't find any green-eyed relatives going back four generations, she started getting suspicious.

The situation got critical when we visited my parents last month. My mom was showing Sophia my baby photos, and every single picture showed me with dark brown eyes. When Sophia asked about it, I panicked and claimed I had some rare condition where my eye color changed as I grew older. But Sophia's not buying it. She keeps studying old photos of me, comparing them to Blake.

The pressure became unbearable because my contact supply ran out last week. For three days, I had to wear my backup daily contacts for 16+ hours, causing severe irritation and redness. Sophia noticed immediately and asked why my eyes looked so different and bloodshot. I told her it was just new parent exhaustion, but she kept staring at me suspiciously.

Everything exploded when Sophia suggested we get genetic testing done for Blake, partly for health reasons but mostly to understand his "unique" eye color inheritance. She's convinced there must be some hidden genetic explanation. I've been stalling, but she already scheduled the appointment.

The nightmare scenario happened yesterday morning. I woke up and one of my contacts had torn during the night. I had to remove both contacts immediately, leaving me with my natural brown eyes for the first time in years around Sophia. I rushed to the bathroom, but she was already awake, holding Blake.

She looked at me and froze completely. "Your eyes," she whispered, staring at my face like she was seeing a stranger. "They're... brown."

I tried to explain about eye infections, but Sophia just kept staring. Then she looked down at Blake's brilliant green eyes, then back at my brown ones.

"This is impossible," she said quietly. "Brown eyes are dominant. You can't have a green-eyed child unless..." She trailed off, but I could see her mind racing.

Now I'm realizing what she's thinking. Sophia's ex-boyfriend Tyler had the most striking green eyes I'd ever seen. They dated for two years and broke up 8 months before we met. But Sophia mentioned having coffee with him last spring when he was in town for work. Blake was born exactly 9 months after that coffee date.

Sophia hasn't said anything about Tyler, but she's been acting completely different since yesterday. She keeps holding Blake at arm's length, studying his eyes like she's seeing them for the first time. She stopped posting photos and took down all the "green-eyed boys" pictures from social media.

The genetic test results came back this morning. Sophia opened them while I was in the shower. When I came out, she was sitting on the bed holding the papers, tears streaming down her face.

"The eye color genetics don't match," she said without looking up. "Blake's green eyes... they're not from you."

She looked at me with my natural brown eyes and said, "I think we both know whose eyes they are."
