✨Cortisol is an anxiety stress hormone, released as part of the anxiety fight-flight response. Even though it initially suppresses appetite, when it is chronically high due to long-term anxiety or stress, it can have the opposite effect. It can stimulates hunger and cravings for high-calorie, sugary, or fatty foods, potentially leading to overeating. This can be because food provides a temporary sense of comfort.

✨Aside from anxiety and stress, depression, low self-esteem, and trauma can also cause people to overeat for comfort.

✨Comfort eating can temporarily make you feel better, but it can also lead to a cycle where you feel bad again, so you comfort eat again. When people get stuck in this cycle, they can feel guilt or shame too, which can bring more negative emotions, and then more over eating.
✨ Developing skills to better manage stress and anxiety, can be very helpful in reducing stress-induced overeating. You will find a tons of tools in my book Ten Times Calmer to help with this.

✨ If overeating is linked to other challenges, seeking professional help can be a powerful step towards healing, improving your overall well-being, and developing healthier coping mechanisms.
