The African Women in Sports Initiative (AWISI) has officially launched in Nairobi, Kenya, marking a decisive moment for women in sports leadership across the continent. Founded by Dr. Marriam Mpata, the initiative unites over 500 members from 20 African countries and is on a mission to uplift, empower, and amplify the voices of African women in sports.

Held under the theme “Africanacity,” the launch event welcomed 150 women across Africa, celebrating excellence, resilience, and achievement. Several women were honoured for their outstanding contributions to sports, receiving standing ovations in a powerful display of solidarity and pride.
