On this day I was working on trying to improve the balancing of two L12 220AH "golf cart" batteries. These are the second hand pair. There has been an ongoing issue with keeping them balanced & I have been using a simple "brute force" shunt regulating method which in effect is a form of "top balancing".
Today though I had enough of the non-effectiveness of that approach and went back to my "analogue computer based balancer" which attempts to keep the batteries balanced at all stages of their charge.
I am much more satisfied with the outcome but this exercise did also point to the fact that I really have to consider this it not really a problem of balancing per se, it's more indicative that one of these batteries is on the way out.
And for something compleatly different, there's a little politics discussed too today, hence the "A bit of a chat." part of my title!
