
67, of Hammond, Indiana, slipped into eternity on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, to meet his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ whom he loved so dearly. Stephen was born on September 9, 1947 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Lyman and Doris Huckins. He graduated from Stillwater High School in 1965, attended Pillsbury Bible College where he met his wife, Carol, and then transferred to the University of Minnesota. In 1968, he joined the Air Force and repaired medical equipment in Wichita Falls, KS, San Antonio, TX, and Fairbanks, Alaska. After leaving the Air Force he briefly worked for the V.A. repairing x-ray equipment. In 1974, he enrolled at Hyles-Anderson College, Crown Point, Indiana, where he graduated with his Bachelor's degree in 1982, and his Master's degree in 1983. Steve was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana since 1974, and enjoyed singing in the choir, visiting with the Fisherman's Club, playing “PeeWee” in Vacation Bible School, helping with security for the church's annual Pastors' School, leading a junior high choir, a clerk for the church's Deacon Board, and teaching a 6th grade boy's Sunday school class. He leaves behind his loving wife, Carol; daughter, Leah (James) Edwards; sons: Michael (Stacy) and Jack (Amanda) Huckins. He is also survived by two sisters: Judy (John) Kullander, and Dena (Ed) Flangan; a sister-in-law, Jeane Lewis; his mother-in-law, Marzelle Underwood; 11 grandchildren: Phillip, Stephen, Samantha, Beca, Nathan, Peter, Tyler, Mikey, Crystal, Amber and Xavier; 4 step-granchildren: Anthony, Paul, Isabelle, and Rosalie; and numerous relatives and friends. Steve was preceded in death by his parents: Lyman (1967) and Doris (2011); and his two sons: Peter (1976) and Paul (2003); and a grandson, Hunter (2005). A visitation and memorial service was held on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at the Memory Lane Funeral Home, 6305 W. Lincoln Highway (US 30), Crown Point, IN, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a Noon service. Pastor John Wilkerson will officiate the service.
