Allen's long-awaited NYC return was co-presented with Blank Forms. His work blurs the borders between disciplines, traversing the worlds of sculpture, painting, drawing, theater, dance, installation, video, performance, and music. His multiplicity saturates his songcraft, whether in his satires of New York artists and their “snotty surfer” West Coast counterparts or in his down-home conversations with the Texicans populating the Panhandle. When asked about country music, Allen replied, “Which country?” His 13 albums certainly do away with any notion of the genre as a fixed, conservative locus.
