Title: Bird Mask
a.k.a. sleeping pigeon
Gouache on 8 x 10 Yellow Pastel Paper
This small monochromatic painting looks different from the perspective you imagine it. When I first saw the paint swirl/splatter I was working from I saw a floating bird mask from a profile view. But then Reid said it looked like a sleeping pigeon if you were looking down from above. As if it had its head tucked into its wing. I see both versions now although the background I painted to be more like an underwater scene. It could also resemble the corner of a street with debris gathered around the edges of a curb. Either way, there’s an egg at the bottom, which is my favorite bit.
