This is actually pretty clever. If you attach a U-shaped angle bracket at one end and lock it in with at least three screws per side, then slide a 4x4 post into a notched slot on the other end and secure it tight, you’re halfway there. Finish it off by using another U bracket—this time with four or more screws—and you’ll have a sturdy, clean-looking frame for your new pergola. Strong, simple, and surprisingly good-looking.
