We spent 3 days riding with gauchos across a mountain range and it was epic! In this video, we'll share our horse trekking adventure that took us across the Sierras Chicas mountain range and back. We crossed from Agua de Oro to Villa Giardino visiting different estancias along the way. Over the course of the trek, we picnicked next to rivers, enjoyed the beautiful autumn colours, tried the local beverage of choice, learned more about the gaucho way of life, and feasted on a traditional Argentine barbecue.

We booked this excursion with Salvador Gimenez, who has a family business and offers horse treks in this part of the province of Cordoba. We spent the first night at his ranch before hitting the trails and making our way up the mountains. He also offers 1-day excursions if you're looking for something a little less challenging!

We hope you enjoy this video, and we'll see you soon with more travel vlogs from Argentina!

🌄 Horse Trek in the Sierras Chicas • Córdoba Adventure Vlog

Ready for a getaway? We saddle up on a multi-day gaucho trek with Salvador Giménez’s family-run outfit, riding through stunning mountain passes, creek crossings and starry-sky nights. Here’s everything that happens, in order:

Excitement at the Estancia

We arrive after three regional buses and meet our guide Salvador at Estancia El Rosal—our first night’s ranch.

Meet the Farm Crew 🐮

Say hello to baby cows, ducks and goats before mounting up on our custom-picked horses.

Afternoon Ride to Merienda 🐎

Trot down country backroads, splash through shallow rivers and admire the sierras’ golden light.

Arrive starved for merienda (tea time) with sweet brownies, quince jam pies, cheese and hot mate.

Moonlit Equine Adventure 🌙

Guided by moonlight and the horses’ surefooted instincts, we ride under a glittering sky to a second estancia.

Night One Camp Setup

Swap trail dust for a cosy bunk in a rustic cabin—surprisingly comfortable after a full day in the saddle.

Sunrise on the Ranch ☀️

Early wake-up call at 7:30 AM. Roosters crow as pink clouds glow over grazing pastures.

Day Two Kick-Off

Breakfast at 8 AM, then remount for another three-hour ride: fresh mountain air and breathtaking views.

Historic Merienda at Estancia Candonga

Sip tea with brownies and local quince tarts in a 19th-century estancia that you can also book for overnight stays.

Riding Through Las Lenitas

After dark, we leave horses to rest, drive into town for pizzas at La Primavera (Napoletana was our fave!).

Crazy Goat Antics 🐐

Overnight barnyard soundtrack: frenetic goats crashing about under moonlight—true country living!

Morning Animal Meet-&-Greet

Friendly dogs, sleepy cows and curious ducks greet us as we prepare for Day 2’s main event.

Retrieving Our Horses

Ride vehicle-trek to collect our mounts and reflect on yesterday’s epic terrain climb.

Full-Day Ascents & Condor Hopes

Slow, steady climb through mountain trails. Guides show phone clips of condors—fingers crossed!

Lunch by the River 🏞️

Picnic on the riverbank: fresh bread, local wine and unbeatable scenery.

Sierras Mí Sueño Stop

Quick break at Estancia Mi Sueño where ranch dogs provide a warm welcome and offer fishing tips.

Runaway Cow Rescue

Two gauchos join our group to track down an escaped bovine—adventure never ends!

Nerve-Racking Descent ⛰️

Steep trails demand concentration. Our expert guides ensure a safe return to valley floor.

Evening in Villa Giardino

Celebrate with Italian fare at Mamma Mia—pasta, pizza and laughs with the crew.

Final Day Asado Farewell 🔥

Ride back over the Sierras Chicas, then swap saddles for a classic Argentine asado—blood sausage, churrasco cuts and more.

Last Car-Ride Down 🚗

Sore legs win out: we catch a lift back to town with our trusty guide and his pup.

Espacio Gaia Toast 🍻

Back in town at Bar Pangea for craft beer, organic wine and empanadas—perfect end to a wild ride.
