GSD measures how much real-world land one pixel in your camera's shot covers. Let's illustrate this with an example: If your camera captures a photo that is 1,000 pixels by 1,000 pixels and your altitude allows it to cover 1,000 centimeters of land, you have 1 centimeter of land represented by each pixel in the photograph.

This matters because when you make measurements within a map or model, it essentially involves measuring from one point to another, or from one pixel to another, as a pixel represents the smallest unit of measurement. The smaller you can make your GSD, the more accurate your map will be. Achieve this by flying closer to the ground and using a camera with higher resolution.
