Torgya Festival 2025 – A Sacred Celebration at Tawang Monastery

The Torgya Festival is one of the most significant Buddhist festivals celebrated annually at the Tawang Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh, India. This three-day spiritual and cultural event will be held from January 27 to January 29, 2025 and is a mesmerizing display of ritual dances, vibrant traditions, and deep-rooted spirituality.

📜 What is Torgya Festival?

The Torgya Festival is an annual Buddhist ritual ceremony performed by the monks of Tawang Monastery. It is observed to drive away evil spirits, negative energies, and natural disasters while ensuring peace, prosperity, and a good harvest for the coming year. This festival follows the Lunar Tibetan Calendar and is unique to the Monpa Buddhist community.

📍 Where is it Celebrated?

Torgya Festival is exclusively celebrated at the historic Tawang Monastery, which is the largest Buddhist monastery in India and the second largest in the world. This sacred site becomes the epicenter of prayers, rituals, and monastic dances, attracting monks, locals, and visitors from around the world.
