With his roots in doo wop, Dion was one of the pioneers of rock'n'roll.
His first hit came in 1957 with No One Knows. He was also a part of Buddy Holly's ill fated Winter Dance Part tour, when sadly Buddy died when his plane crashed on 3 February 1959.
Two of his biggest hits came with Runaround Sue and the Wanderer in 1961.
He has continued to record and perform across the decades and released the album Girlfriends in 2024.
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. This was only the fourth year of inductions and shows Dion's stature in the rock'n'roll world.
