In module 3 of the soloing lab, you will learn to create a "Motif" and/or a "Theme" for your solos. If you are not soloing over a song form (this is common in a Rock drum solo), you need to have the option of creating a "Motif" for your solos. A motif can help the listener connect to your performance in a much deeper way. Neil Peart, for example, is one of the great Rock "Motif" soloists. A "theme" can also be a great way to give the listener (and you) a focused path of thought to work with, through your solo. I explain and demonstrate the concepts of Motifs and Themes to get you started down the road of developing amazing drum solo moments in your playing.
In this video, we cover:
Understanding and creating a Motif
Building a Theme in your solos
