REITs are known for paying a high dividend yield, sometimes this goes all the way up to 10%.And there are many different REITs out there that have a completely different business model. But they all focus on real estate in a way.
And the overall US REIT market cap has increasing over the years all the way up to 1.4 trillion dollar market. So there's plenty of opportunity here.
One of the biggest requirments to be called a REIT is that they have to pay 90% of their taxable income to shareholders through dividends, hence the high yield.
And one of the key numbers to evaluate REITs and see if dividend are sustainable is funds from operations.
