Several hundred students of the college took to the streets at about 3:00pm to protest at the death, about three hours after Nayeem Hasan aged 17 was declared dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
A dustcart of Dhaka South City Corporation ran over Nayeem who was riding his bicycle on his way to the college from Kamrangirchar residence. The teenage college student was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
The annoyed college students marched nearly three kilometres to reach the place of the accident where they staged demonstration for about a couple of hours blocking the road to traffic and demanding justice for Nayeem.
Earlier the agitated students tried to enter the Nagar Bhaban building near Gulistan but failed. They returned to the place of the accident and began demonstration.
The protesters withdrew their blockade at about 5:00pm when teachers of the collage came to the spot and calmed them saying that they had talked to the police who assured them of justice.
Nayeem Hasan was a second-year student of Higher Secondary Certificate of the college.
