The Einsatzgruppen, Nazi mobile killing units, followed the German army during the invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941. Their mission was to eliminate "racial and ideological enemies" such as Jews, Roma, communists, and intellectuals. These groups orchestrated mass executions, primarily through shootings into mass graves, often in collaboration with local auxiliaries and other German forces. Their actions led to hundreds of thousands of deaths, illustrating the brutality and systematic nature of Nazi crimes during the Holocaust.
