The only album by a band from Poza Rica de Hidalgo (Veracruz state).

The group was born in the city of Poza Rica, Veracruz, in 1965, named The Gold Fingers, performing at the local soda fountain called Dairy Queen. They were later renamed The Sounds.2

Jorge Clemente López, composer of the group's songs, was a friend of Estela Wilson, also from Poza Rica and daughter of television host Francisco D'Alessio, father of Lupita D'Alessio, who contacted them with Alfredo Gil "El Güero", then manager of the Capitol Records label, who auditioned them after López insisted with Gil that the label executives listen to them. One version indicates that the name "El jarra de mostaza" was given to them by "Güero" Gil himself, who saw their eyes red after a trip from Poza Rica to Mexico City to record their first and only EP. The executive thought the name The Sounds was "very strawberry" and assumed that marijuana use ("mustard", nickname given at the time to the substance3) had caused their eyes to turn red and the members of the group decided to adopt the name.14

The group was successful in the Mexican rock scene for their first album, recorded with the intention of a conceptual album and for being sung entirely in Spanish, a situation that was not usual in psychedelic rock groups of the late sixties.2

Thanks to the success of the album they rose to fame, made several artistic tours around Mexico and their material was reviewed by national media. They disbanded in 1970 after a disagreement with their record company over a very low royalty payment and the intention of the members to return to their family life.1 Jorge Clemente López continued to claim royalty payment from the Capitol company after his album was republished by the same, without receiving a response.5 He died in his native Poza Rica in 2019.
