The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially rejected the recall petition filed against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stating that the verified signatures fell short of the constitutional threshold required for the process to move forward. Of the 237,278 signatures needed—representing 50% plus one of registered voters in Kogi Central—only 208,132 were confirmed as valid.

To explain the implications of INEC’s decision, Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, offers insight into the verification process. Isaiah Davies-Ijele, the Press Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State, gives context from the party’s perspective on what this development means for Senator Natasha and her political future.
