Niklas Edin skipped the Swedish national curling team to the title at the Olympic Games in Beijing. The 36-year-old played the decisive last stone in the final against Great Britain - and thus ensured the gold medal.
Worth knowing: Edin's path to the top of the world was not a matter of course: over the past ten years, he has undergone a total of ten operations - including on his back, knee, shoulder and repeatedly due to hernias. Curling became an opportunity to pursue competitive sport despite health setbacks.
