Dry ice is the solid form of carbon dioxide (CO₂), and it behaves differently from substances like water ice. Instead of melting into a liquid, dry ice undergoes sublimation - a phase change where a solid turns directly into a gas without passing through the liquid state. At atmospheric pressure, carbon dioxide doesn't exist as a liquid, so when dry ice warms up, it turns straight into gas. This rapid state change can create a layer of gas between the dry ice and a surface, reducing friction and making the block appear to glide or hover.
